New MacServer Address

Teachers: Along with access to Google Docs, all of your students also have a username and password for logging in to the macs that enable them to store files in their folders. This will give them virtual access from nearly any Mac in the school. Now when students log in, they will automatically connect to folders that they share with teachers. (Thanks Chery!… and to Courtney for the new address.)

A shared folder for each grade level enables you to quickly distribute or collect files. Students have the right to delete any file in the folder, so be sure to save files in a safe place after students submit their work. Otherwise, you may have students accidentally deleting files that belong others. In other words, the shared folder shouldn’t be used to archive work.

Unlike students, teachers have to connect to the server in order to access this shared folder. Here’s how to access this shared folder.

  • Click on your desktop.
  • Click on “Go.”
  • Click on “Connect to Server…”
  • Type in “afp://macserver/UserData” and click on “connect”
  • Select the year folder that your students graduate. 4th=2020, 5th=2019, 6th=2018.
  • Select the year folder + group.

Jack Multiplies Decimals

My mathematics class has been inspired by the mathematics tutorials on www.mathtrain.tv and on www.khanacademy.org. So we thought we’d give it a try! This series of videos demonstrates what students have been learning since school started on August 22nd.

Here’s a screencast of Jack multiplying decimals.

Infinite Campus Portal for Parents

Shelly just sent this great information to the staff, and I thought I’d share it. If you need your Campus Portal Activation Key again, please contact Shelley Schuler.

Thanks to our wonderful Tech person, Tava Smathers, we have an updated set of instructions for parents on how to set up their Parent Portal….Remember, this is where you can see your child’s teachers’ names, attendance, behavior, grades, list of classes. This is different from FUSION!

Hello Telluride!

Students, Parents and TIS Faculty,

Operation Material Exfoliation

I am super excited to begin working with you. I’ll be taking on the position that was recently filled by Mz. Hoins, Enrichment & Technology Teacher. I’ll do my very best to serve your students and you. I welcome your advice and ideas as I transition into this new working environment. Special thanks to Steve Smith, Nancy DeCastro and Steph Gebauer for making this transition enjoyable and stress-free!

It was important to give my current school district, Aurora Public Schools (APS), 30 days notice. So I’ll be officially starting August 22nd. However I will be at the retreat on the 18th. My last day with APS is the 19th… so unfortunatley I’ll miss the back to school celebration.

My partner, Shannon, and daughter Didi (2nd grader) will be joining me in a few weeks. They are putting the finishing touches on “operation material exfoliation.” We’re giving away most of what we own and are starting anew in Telluride. Here’s more about me if you’re still wondering, “Who is this guy?” http://www.theseapplesaredelicious.com/about/

Kind regards,

Chris EarthTree
