Importing Image from Visualizer

orange.jpgActivStudio is a fantastic tool for working with student work. Using a visualizer or camera you can take a picture of student work and then import it into an activstudio flipchart. Once there you can use the tools on the toolbar to have students create, add to, delete from, label, diagram, highlight, etc. For example in science you can snap a picture of a plant for students to diagram using the text and line tools. During writing you can snap a picture of a student’s journal. Then students can use the highlight, lines and text tools to edit the image.

This video demonstrates how to import images from a SPC300 visualizer into activstudio.

Sticky Notes

Here’s a neat way to make sticky notes for students to use on flipcharts. I learned this during the Activ08 conference last week. If you used chart paper and sticky notes on a KWL chart in the past (before ActivStudio), you’ll like this. Once you make the sticky note you can copy the one to make many.

Cool it! XE40

Jay Vean put together a great flipchart that demonstrates how to change the setting on XE40 projectors to make the fan work harder. This is important to the life of these projectors. At this altitude the life span of projector bulbs is shortened. If you turn your projector fan up, then it will keep it cool and it will last much longer.

Disabling Pointing Stick on Laptops

If you have a laptop with a “pointing stick,” or “blue knobby gizmo,” you may have had the experience that your cursor jumps around as you type. This can be especially annoying if you are typing something from an article and not watching the screen.

Here’s how to disable the pointing stick.

NOTE: If you have a Latitude D630, you’ll need to download this driver before following the tutorial. Apparently Dell did not load these laptops with this driver before shipping them out to us. [Thanks to Efrin Ortiz for finding and sharing it.]
